The safety guard is used when the needle tip needs to be withdrawn after dialysis treatment has concluded.
Instructions for use:
1. Slowly push the safety guard on the hose forward toward the wing‑like tab, so that the raised front end of the guard points upward.
2. With one hand, use the middle and ring fingers to press the cotton pad positioned above the needle tip, and with the index finger, hook the raised front edge of the safety guard to prepare for needle removal.
3. With the other hand, gently pull the soft tubing of the puncture needle at the rear of the safety guard. Withdraw it until it reaches the locking groove, and continue pulling until you hear a “click,” which locks the latch tab in the groove against the wing, preventing the needle tip from retracting on its own.
4. Dispose of the puncture needle lodged in the safety device into the sharps container, thereby ensuring the safety of healthcare personnel and preventing sharps‑related injuries among waste‑management staff.
